Cuckoos and Other Strange birds…

…nuthouses, asylums and jails.

This is one for the fallen, the ones in that other war, the war against and for the mind, the war for the individual those unknown names, the tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of forgotten, in numbered graves, identified by concrete markers. To end one’s life in a numbered grave?

But I guess it is in the realease of one soul in the final breath from that ‘special kind of hell’.

Those deemed mad because of fierce individualism, their odd eccentricities, unusual and not like the standard fop of society. Those, unwilling to bend to the enforced and generalized, homogenized and generic other view of what is reality. To the unrecognized gifted; the psychic; the undiagnosed and muted autistic, those unusual artists that walk that fiery edge with a tempting muse in soft and gentle hand leading the way. The high flyer and broken-hearted, the unjustly made pariah, the dalit and the untouchable. The loner, the terribly abused and discarded and the estranged. That if one looks populate our modern streets in cities.

Those in the know; the tenured government professionals, scholars, officials suggest that the expansion and proliferation of institutions in 19th and 20th century was indeed the sign of progress. Their natural and encouraged expansion of jails, schools, medical institutions that specialized in chronic disease and lastly the asylums and psychiatric hospitals.

Here in the province of Saskatchewan all the larger institutions were built around the turn of the century within the same decade; the first university, the government legislature, the maximum security penitentiary and finally two psychiatric hospitals, one on the north side of the North Saskatchewan river near the city of North Battleford, in the Northwest of the province and one near the small city of Weyburn, in the southeast of the province. And this was done on purpose — to gather the unwanted in the north and south of a large province, some 250,000 sq/miles and to make it difficult for families to visit, to separate those within and from the rest of society. And the staff and professionals that ran such institutions made it difficult and dissuaded any and all visitation.

And one would presume that, that would be index and of the start of all small cities throughout the continent. In economy and government finance they are subject to that rule, but it seemed a general rule of thumb. In the expansion of the empire.

These institutions brought solid jobs, that came with a ripe income and possible greater benefits that other occupations did not have; the spin-off encouraged contracting from those nearby small cities of other services necessary for these government-run institutions.

Hosting one of these brought power and prestige to the region, it brought educated professionals and that spin-off, and only enabled an ensured future as other industrial cities rose and fell by the wayside or became small and derelict now in the late twentieth-first century…

But I wish to get at the formula of the beginnings of what we know are now immersed in a totality.

The jails and specifically the large mentalal hospitals/asylums enforced labour without pay on the inmates, and this served as a cost cutting measures as the crops and food grown added to the institution; woodworking, house cleaning, cooking, grounds keeping also in the end served the bottom line, of cost effectiveness. They must be run as cheaply as possible. All in the name of ‘such work rehabilitated them by teaching them disciple, order and in some cases skills that could be useful‘.

With the jails and the asylums, isolation was an important factor in where these institutions where built, and I especially would like to point to the psychiatric hospitals. In Canada all these institutions were run by maniacs and Nazi types like the celebrated Dr. Ewen Cameron a twentieth century psychiatric a Josef Mengele of sorts, of Scottish heritage a psychopath afflicted deeply.

Battleford Psychiatric Hospital

The isolation served a number of purposes, but it was central to the idea of instruction and mainly isolation.

They served as areas of study, of what might be called the extreme.

They also served to isolate the patients from their loved ones; family found it hard to visit and were discouraged from visiting as this, ‘would interfere in their rehabilitation’.

Eventually they became estranged from family and in many cases, as time and decades moved on, the family stopped trying, gave up because they became convinced of the dilemma, incurable and tragically terminal was the asked for and response of those that ran these places; that were actually jails.

Expense for the hospital it was complained and, the family, it was always a determining factor and, in the end, many were forgotten or neglected — which reaches back to initial reasons for their ‘incarceration’. Having someone crazy in the family was a propagandized ableism. A shame. They had secret reasons that never came to light.

Many, many ended, by spending their entire lives in such institutions going through generations of new reformers and zealots, and those who eventually fell back into the older, proven and much relied upon methods of institutionalizing and the psychiatric methodology.

Dr. Ewen Cameron was one of those who used this hospital for his research and practice on a regular basis during his hold of psychiatry in Canada, as he served as president of the Canadian Psychiatric Association (1958–1959), American Psychiatric Association (1952–1953), American Psychopathological Association (1963), Society of Biological Psychiatry (1965) and the World Psychiatric Association (1961–1966).

In Dr. Ewen Cameron’s tenure as setting down precedence; electro-shock, isolation in padded cells, cold and hot temperature therapy, drugs. Becoming paid centers of drug testing, cruelty and psychic bullying, lobotomy, psychedelic drug use and induced sleep and coma, invasive therapy, and psychic driving served to finish of many of who I speak of, calling them in a “special kind of hell ”.

Menticide was crime of these early pioneers of the mind.

Lobotomies separate the individual from their prefrontal cortex; drugs fogged an otherwise lively mind and committed them to drooling; psychic driving was used and is a form of torture. The induced state of languishing produced more mental illness. The managed state of bedlam threw gasoline on a dumpster fire of supposed care, and in all this a climbing suicide rate.

Loneliness can be the bed fellow of crazy.

“Many residents of asylums died while in medical care, some from medical neglect, abusive staff, and poor living and working conditions.” — Erika Dyck

Cemeteries began to arise with unmarked and numbered graves, these crept up near and at the back of these psychiatric institutions and soon became filled with those who died from old age, suicide, chronic diseases and abuse from those who would experiment both professionally and as a game on these poor souls.

Burial was refused in community cemeteries in nearby cities as if the bodies buried signified some kind of contagion or psychic dysfunction to those who were buried with honour, prestige and expense. By-laws were soon created and put on the books. In the case of the Psychiatric Hospital, in North Battleford, here in Northern Saskatchewan, they maintained three such cemeteries until the final closure and demolition and construction of a new facility just recently. I often wonder if they were exhume as with the natives and buried in honour.

I visited the place a number of times; my wife had a job where she travelled to North Battleford and took in seminars on the agricultural business and I would visit the hospital, attracted like a moth to dangerous flame, it never ceased to interest me. I would take photographs and sketch the place; wander it grounds and outlying cemeteries; the smaller one-and two-bedroom brick houses built on the back of the property, always away from the main entrance for the special cases. And for the professionals that visited from far off and stayed a few days or they were used for analysis of extreme or very special cases and special conditions. Maybe CIA purposes? Dr. Ewen Cameron worked and instructed there…and Saskatchewan had a smaller population then, was quite isolated anyway. So many of those inmates came in from other provinces.

Nearby communities where of no help with those who might be released or held indefinitely, and so relapse is easily fell back into, and was inevitable in many cases.

The “One flew over the Cuckoo Nest” scenario is not far off the reality of such places. The very nature of the job attracts and sponsors the very worst of bullies and psychopaths and abusers that thoroughly enjoy their work as it is consecrated by the priesthood as beneficial to society and of great need.

Eugenics in action. Those who do not see the dehumanizing of such work? Strangely we find through the Milgram experiments many easily fall into this category of the abuser on the psychiatrically ill. Research has shown that the Nazis used these very same methods and in the end the staff that are the abusers are convinced they are doing right by their abuse and it can escalate. Physical and sexual abuse, verbal abuse and gaslighting.

In the end, the 60’s and 70’s saw reform and the deinstitutionalisation of these people and the releasing into society many that had had their minds destroyed, victims of menticide, they fell easily through the cracks, unskilled and unfamiliar with the workings of society, or came into highly dysfunctional relationships and criminality, that breed children raised in terrible dysfunction furthering the abuse; many ended in government run nursing homes, many of them ended up homeless, pushing shopping carts of misery up hills of daily abuse.

Eugenics enabled, and was a poster on the wall of such institutions like psychiatric hospitals. And enforced sterilization, in the late 19th and early 20th century. Communities prided themselves on upholding of global eugenics ideals and programs, and had competition within and around all surrounding communities on this regard. Farmers and ranchers were easily swayed about genetics. Planned parenthood is the rebranded and newly minted and packaged product of such long time thinking.

Newgenics a reformed way, enables those with physical and mental disabilities to gain in marriage relationship without the forced sterilization nowadays, but watched closely and on permanent birth control, and if a pregnancy occurs the infant is taken from the situation of the disable, as these, are, considered very high risk parenting situations.

The Canadian government at present refuses to allow immigration of those kinds of disabled people and see, ‘these practices reflect that idea that the sexuality and reproductive capacity of intellectually disabled, mad, or physically disabled people is dangerous and therefore in need of government management.’.

I have spent time in the trenches, and know full well what psychiatry is capable of…

After a very dysfunctional early childhood and multiple vaccines which caused autism, and abuse I spent time in a psychiatric ward and I know their procedures during the 70’s.

Drugged and experimented on…

I was young man who is on the autism spectrum, far too talkative and talented, both visually and with my hands; language was very difficult and I still struggle and my verbosity and difficulty in social situation. I violated the social etiquette, and of conversation, which overtook me as I could not stop the rush of my ideas. My creative and imaginative process, overwhelmed those around me. Frequently putting my foot in my mouth, pedantic to a fault and slave to ritual and the detail and fact. A mimic of profound talent I was gullible at first and quick to sometimes judge; a victim of mate crime many times. In relationships and friendships with males and females it was difficult in the beginning, I was isolated as a young teen and friends took great advantage, as did lovers and marriage partners. My social skills never really matured. I became better at hiding what I needed to hide.

“Many vulnerable adults have few friends, and for some vulnerable people, having any friends is better than no friends at all. Mate crime centres around issues of self-belief and self-worth in the vulnerable person. Vulnerable people will often think it’s all right for people to walk all over [them], because that’s what’s happened to them the whole of their lives.”

Having gone through numbers of diagnoses from Schizophrenia to bi-polarism, personality disorder, ODD (oppositional defiance disorder) I have come on a long road of discovery to finally knowing who I am. I was aided by some real friends who helped me in my search for truth and peace. Am I there yet, hell no, I work at it everyday. And I have come to believe the discovery of self is a lifelong thing.

Being well adjusted to a fucking insane society is of no merit at all. But I do know that “There but for the grace of God, go I”. I believe in Jesus Christ and will not put under because of it.

I am like a Jack Nicholson in “One flew over the cuckoo’s nest.

I sympathize and a feel a tear and shed a tear at the unfortunates who have be battered their whole lives by a reality created on high by the Reality Manufacturers. Any other time other than this I would have found myself in the cuckoo’s nest. Am I angry? Not so much anymore but it has bred a warrior-poet of sizable strength and talent. Autism allows for pattern recognition and I can see clearly now the intent of the past one hundred years. And why in the beginning certain institutions are built first.

Strangely across the North Saskatchewan river from the Battleford Psychiatric Hospital is the old Government House residence of the Lieutenant Governor (Edward Dewdney of the English Empire). This was when the Battlefords (and it earned that name in blood) was a territory of the North West Territories in what is at present the province of Saskatchewan. Wikipedia has cleaned up Dewdney rep, but he was blood thirsty bastard of the frontier…

Government House became a residential school operated by the Anglican Church and also, has its own graveyard. One must be careful with the issue of the residential school, but racism, is, deep within Saskatchewan culture; everything here is solved with money? But a new light is dawning. All of this arriving on time and the scene as empire sets in and takes whole within the same early decade of the twentieth century.

“Those that do not submit will be made mad first and torn asunder.”

‘Feeblemindedness’, ‘incurable’, ‘chemical imbalance’. Crazy, and unhinged, psychotic, fruit loops-and a nutter, mental case and conspiracy theorist.

I left the best for last, because conspiracist theorist as you quite well know is a term created by the CIA to dismiss off hand anyone who can see the patterns. Calling some one such things is dismissive and eliminates their input, it is a verbal bullying that will look past the excepted dogma of a thing, it allows the caller to escape any further intellectual scrutiny or look into what they are saying about a thing. Conspiracy theorist is branded a madness, a thing that is passed down as the gospel according to the empire. A form of mental illness picked from the old Soviet ways. The American learned well.

In the old days they were put in bedlam in far of psychiatric hospitals. Women who had tough pregnancies, wealthy men who aging wives stood in fron of their philandering. The list is long.

We are all unhinged in some way and autism is a greater spectrum than acknowledged and I can see it in most of society, under other names and handles it is a being touched with a kind of truth, ready for a ripe awakening into the light. Some are so lightly touched, others live in terrible mental suffering in a neurologically self-induced kind of psychic driving accompanied with the meltdowns.

The old brick North Battleford institution is gone now, I read that they kept certain aspects, certain parts of the old building and incorporated it into the new building. The old ways, in the shadow of the demolition are gone now. Or are they?

The new building and new methods and new drugs and electronics and technological means of changing a human into what they wish in new and unbelievable ways.

This is the foundation of psychiatry, the ideas of theory of mind, of how it operates and the false problems of a mind that they claim are inherent, a problem of genetics; a justification for eugenics. These were formulated in places like this; the ideas of a Dr. Ewen Cameron a terribly evil man, or a Louis Jolyon West, M. D, a contracted and paid psychiatric asset for the CIA. This is the ways of social engineering. The abuse by organizations that deal with the human mind and the government funded psychiatrists who defied the natural laws of humanness.

The CIA has in the twentieth century found traction under the guise of human mental health. But it is about assassination and over throw of foreign governments and individuals courageous enough to stand against global criminal organizations that have taken over western governments a long, long time ago.

This is without a doubt, the evil work of psychopaths.

And now with new technologies, in the micro and the macro; the electronic panopticon, AI that silences dissent voices. The cognitive diminishment of firstly the youth and the rest of us in following.

So here’s to the mad fuckers of the world who rage against mediocrity and sameness and the lowest common denominator. The wheat that grown all at the same height.
